FANCL Sleep & Fatigue Care: Ingredients, Daily Use and Who Should Avoid It

FANCL Sleep and Fatigue Care food supplement, four tablets daily Japan Drugstore Guides

FANCL Sleep & Fatigue Care is worth understanding if you are comparing food supplements for sleep quality and tiredness on waking. If you want something that will make you fall asleep immediately tonight, or you are regularly unable to sleep, start with a different question: does this problem need medical assessment?

Irene

I’m Irene, born in Taiwan and licensed as a pharmacist in Japan, where I work in a drugstore. When a package says “sleep,” I first check whether it is a food or a medicine. That distinction makes the rest of the shopping decision much clearer.

Checked 19 October 2026. This guide covers the Japanese 120-tablet, 30-day pouch labelled 睡眠&疲労感ケア. Directions and ingredients refer to the Japanese product.

Decide what you need before choosing the pouch

  • A food supplement aimed at sleep quality and morning tiredness: read the specific claims below, then check the exclusions before considering it.
  • Immediate sedation tonight or on a flight: this product does not offer that promise. Taking extra tablets does not create an appropriate sleep medicine.
  • Ongoing poor sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness or symptoms affecting daily life: seek medical assessment rather than repeatedly changing supplements or self-selecting sleep aids.
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding or a product for a child: exclude this one. FANCL explicitly says these groups should not take it.

What “Food with Function Claims” actually means

FANCL lists this product as a Japanese Food with Function Claims, with notification number G58. It is a food. Unlike Japan’s Foods for Specified Health Uses, this product has not undergone individual government evaluation of its function and safety. A notification number is not government approval to treat insomnia.

The ingredient-specific wording matters:

  • L-ornithine monohydrochloride: reported to improve sleep quality in terms of the feeling of having slept for a long time, and to support waking in a better mood.
  • Crocetin: reported to reduce fatigue on waking.

These are reported functions of the ingredients, not a guarantee that every person will benefit. They do not establish longer actual sleep duration, treatment of insomnia or immediate sedation. FANCL also notes that the representative studies displayed on its page did not test this finished product. If the main problem is being unable to sleep, understanding the cause is more useful than searching for the strongest-looking pouch.

Complete Japanese FANCL Sleep and Fatigue Care 30-day pouch
Match the Japanese product name and the 30-day pack. The daily amount in this guide belongs to this product.

Four tablets daily: both ingredient amounts are daily totals

The current label gives a daily guideline of four tablets with water or a similar drink. Those four tablets together supply L-ornithine monohydrochloride 500 mg and crocetin 7.5 mg. These are not amounts per tablet. A 30-day pouch contains 120 tablets.

The current back label shown by FANCL does not specify that they must be taken at bedtime. It also does not say to take extra when you cannot sleep. Follow the daily amount on your own pack; do not transfer a sleep medicine’s timing or dosing instructions to this food, or increase the amount because you notice nothing that evening.

The tablet photograph helps with identification and is not actual size. Showing one tablet does not mean the daily amount is one tablet.

Vitamins B1, B2 and B6 are included too. If you already use a multivitamin or B-complex supplement, compare the daily labels together. Different product names can still mean overlapping nutrients. This product cannot replace a balanced diet or adequate sleep.

Check pregnancy, medicines and allergies first

  • Do not take during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or give to children. The label also states that it was not developed for people with diseases, minors, pregnant people including those planning pregnancy, or people who are breastfeeding. If planning pregnancy, discuss the choice with a healthcare professional rather than starting independently.
  • If you have a disease, consult a doctor; if taking medicines, consult a doctor or pharmacist. Bring the medicine list and all supplement labels, including other sleep products. Do not stop prescribed treatment or assume that being a food makes every combination suitable.
  • Food allergies: the specified-allergen declaration lists no applicable items, but the label still tells people with food allergies to check ingredients and not consume it. This declaration is not a guarantee against every possible allergy.
  • If you feel an unusual change in your health: stop promptly and consult a doctor. Keep the package for identification. Being sold as a food is no reason to continue through a suspected adverse reaction.

Storage and the small-print reminders

  • Keep away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity, and out of reach of infants and young children.
  • Close the zip securely after opening and consume as soon as practical. Check the best-before date on your own pack.
  • Handle hygienically without wet hands. Do not eat the desiccant.
  • FANCL notes that vitamin B2 can temporarily turn urine yellow and that product colour may vary slightly. These statements do not explain away other symptoms or replace the advice to stop if you feel unwell.

How this differs from Drewell sleep medicines

Japanese Drewell and Drewell EX are medicines for temporary sleeplessness, with separate restrictions involving age, health conditions, other medicines, alcohol and driving. FANCL Sleep & Fatigue Care is a food. Tablet counts do not measure comparative strength, and the products are not interchangeable. Do not create your own combined bedtime regimen.

If you were looking for a medicine, read the Drewell and Drewell EX short-term-use guide. Repeated poor sleep still calls for medical assessment rather than an automatic switch to a drug.

My buying order: check whether the sleep problem needs medical attention, establish whether this food is suitable, then compare its daily label with products you already take. Deciding not to buy can be a sensible outcome.
