Curél Heel Care Mask in Japan: Moisturise First, Then Slip It On

Complete Japanese Curél 6-sheet pack and white heel mask, beside the official diagram of widening the opening with both thumbs Japan Drugstore Guides

Looking after dry heels during a winter trip to Japan? A pack labelled かかとケアマスク may look like something you simply open and slip on. With this Curél mask, the useful detail is the order: moisturise your heels first, then put on the white sheet. Let’s follow the clues on the pack and the small hand movements that bring it gently into place.

“Dry type”: moisturise first, put the mask on afterwards

Kao describes this as a dry-type mask worn after skincare, in the Japanese category 雑貨 (a general-use item). The sheet is made from PP and PE and is worn over moisturising cream or similar skincare already applied to the heels. Separating the skincare you apply from the sheet you wear makes its role much easier to understand.

The full Japanese name is キュレル ガサガサかかとをしっとり包む お手入れ底上げ かかとケアマスク. Each pack contains six sheets. The pack and white sheet in the photograph belong to this one product; they are not two separate items to buy together.

Start with clean feet and your heel skincare

After bathing or before bed, complete your heel skincare with moisturising cream or a similar product on clean feet, then put on the mask. Kao advises applying the cream generously and evenly to help the mask fit more closely. The fit varies from person to person.

“Dry type” describes the mask itself; it is not an instruction to dry your skin completely before use. The sequence to remember is skincare first, sheet afterwards.

The mask can be worn on either foot and entered from either opening. The material is delicate and soft, and pulling hard may tear it. Put it on slowly, a little at a time, and take particular care if your nails are long.

Three small movements to bring the sheet around your heel

1. Open it with both thumbs and ease your toes in

Insert both thumbs into the opening. Using the broad pads of your thumbs, gently spread it to the sides while easing your toes in a little at a time. Avoid pulling the opening wide in one sudden movement.

2. Use your finger pads to bring it back over the heel

Use the broad pads of your thumbs to gently gather the sheet towards the heel, bring it over the heel and adjust its position. Do not dig in your nails or pull hard. Let your finger pads do the work.

3. Press gently over the sheet to fit it against the skin

Once it is in position, gently press over the whole mask so that it fits against the skin around your heel.

At bedtime, leave it on overnight and remove it in the morning

Kao recommends using it before bed, sleeping with it on and removing it the next morning. The brand page also allows wearing it during the day, so the bedtime recommendation is not an overnight-only restriction.

The product can be used daily, but for hygiene, do not use a sheet again after it has been used. For another day’s routine, use a fresh sheet rather than keeping the same one to wear each day.

  • The mask does not dissolve in water. Do not flush it down a toilet or drain.
  • Keep it away from high temperatures and direct sunlight. The brand page warns that the sheet may shrink.
  • Keep out of reach of infants and young children.

Kao reports allergy testing and patch testing with participants who have dry, sensitive skin. Patch testing checks for skin irritation; these tests do not guarantee that nobody will experience an allergy or skin irritation.

Picture where it fits in your own routine

If you want a wearable step after moisturising clean heels with no skin abnormalities, the sequence is straightforward: apply skincare, ease the sheet on, adjust the fit, then remove and discard it after use. Connect that routine with “dry type” and “six sheets” on the label, rather than choosing from the words “foot mask” alone.
