Meiji Amino Collagen in Japan: Regular, Premium, NMN or Ca styles?

Japanese Meiji Amino Collagen regular, Premium, NMN and Ca styles 196 g bags Japan Drugstore Guides

Looking for Meiji collagen powder and facing a shelf of white-and-pink, gold and dark-red bags, plus Ca styles? Choose by the extra ingredients you actually want. All four formulas have the same suggested daily amount, 7 g, providing 5,000 mg of collagen peptides. Gold packaging and the NMN name do not mean more collagen.

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born, Japan-licensed pharmacist working in a Japanese drugstore. Let’s narrow down the bags by what you meant to buy, whether you want to measure powder each day, and what supplements you already take.

Sources checked: 13 October 2026. This guide compares Japanese-market regular, Premium, NMN and Ca styles powders. Check separate labels for other markets, older packs and other flavours.

Which bag fits your shopping list?

  • Want the basic collagen powder? Start with regular. It already contains collagen, vitamin C, arginine and glucosamine. If you have no particular extra ingredient in mind, there is no need to move up just because another name sounds more luxurious.
  • Already looking for hyaluronic acid, ceramide and CoQ10 together? Compare Premium. Those three additions distinguish the gold bag from regular. Check whether your other supplements already supply them.
  • Specifically looking for NMN? Find NMN on the dark-red bag. A 7 g daily portion supplies 250 mg of NMN. That identifies the formula; it does not establish anti-ageing or skin-improvement results.
  • Want calcium and vitamin D in the same powder? Look at Ca styles. Its daily 7 g portion supplies 210 mg calcium and 12.5 μg vitamin D. Count any calcium tablets, vitamin D or multivitamins you already use before adding it.

Match the full name and pack size

Same collagen amount, different additions

These amounts are per suggested daily 7 g portion. All four provide 5,000 mg fish-derived collagen peptides, 50 mg vitamin C and 25 mg arginine. Glucosamine varies by formula.

Formula Main additions compared with regular Glucosamine
Regular The basic formula for comparison 60 mg
Premium Hyaluronic acid 20 mg, ceramide 1,200 μg, CoQ10 10 mg 60 mg
NMN NMN 250 mg 60 mg
Ca styles Calcium 210 mg, vitamin D 12.5 μg, hyaluronic acid 20 mg 120 mg

More ingredients or a larger total number of milligrams is not an effectiveness ranking. Premium’s additions and Ca styles’ extra glucosamine do not let us calculate better skin, joint or other outcomes. If you simply want the same collagen amount, regular already provides that comparison point.

All four are foods. Ca styles is additionally labelled a Japanese Food with Nutrient Function Claims for calcium, or 栄養機能食品(カルシウム). Calcium’s stated nutrient function concerns the formation of bones and teeth. This category does not involve individual government assessment of each product’s effectiveness, and Ca styles is not an osteoporosis treatment. Regular, Premium and NMN names do not represent approved skin-improvement or anti-ageing effects.

Use 7 g a day in a portion you will finish

Follow the pack’s suggested daily amount of approximately 7 g and stir it into a drink or food. A 196 g bag provides about 28 days; 98 g provides about 14. Coffee, milk, yogurt or soup are options, so choose something you normally enjoy. Meiji explains that, as a food, it has no medicine-like requirement to take it at a particular time of day.

Official Meiji Ca styles mixing photograph. Use it as an example of mixing, not a guide to a measured 7 g portion; follow the weight and instructions on your pack.

Household spoons vary: use 7 g as your reference rather than assuming “one scoop” is a fixed weight. Meiji’s NMN page gives three heaped teaspoons as a guide. Adding the powder to your own cup or bowl makes your portion easier to track than adding it to a shared drink or a whole pot of soup.

NMN has a separate heat precaution: avoid prolonged high-temperature cooking. Stir it into warm food or drinks just before eating. General instructions allowing collagen powder in hot food should not be read as permission to simmer the NMN version for a long time.

For less measuring or easier travel use, compare NMN POWDER STICK, containing ten 7 g sachets. Each sachet is one suggested daily portion; a ten-sachet pack is not a 28-day supply. Its additives differ slightly from the large NMN bag, so check its own ingredient list.

Check milk, kiwi and fish-derived ingredients

Formula Allergens declared in the official ingredient list
Regular, Premium and NMN Milk, orange, soy and gelatin
Ca styles Orange, kiwi, soy and gelatin

All four use fish-derived collagen and are unsuitable for a vegan diet. A fish allergy is still relevant even though “fish” does not appear in that declared-allergen column. Ca styles does not list milk, but that is not an individual safety guarantee for someone with a milk allergy. Read the complete label on the actual bag and ask the manufacturer or a healthcare professional if there is an allergy concern.

Choose one after checking what you already take

Look together at your collagen powders, vitamin C, calcium/vitamin D, CoQ10, hyaluronic acid and NMN products. Taking a full 7 g portion of two formulas also doubles their shared collagen and vitamin C amounts. Avoid stacking bags in pursuit of quicker results. If you have no clear reason to add an ingredient, leaving it on the shelf is a reasonable choice.

If you take medicines, receive treatment or follow a medically restricted diet, show the ingredient list to your doctor or pharmacist first. Check suitability before using these for pregnancy, breastfeeding or children; adult shopping guidance should not simply be applied to them. Stop and seek advice if you feel unwell after taking a product. Keep a balanced diet as the foundation.

Two final checks: storage and seller

Reseal after opening, keep away from sunlight, heat and humidity, and use promptly. Measure with a dry spoon. Do not put a spoon used to stir a drink back into the bag: moisture can cause the powder to clump.

Meiji has warned about counterfeit regular and Premium 196 g products sold through some Japanese online channels, including listings using genuine product photographs. Buy from a trustworthy authorised seller rather than relying on the picture alone. NMN has an authenticity mark containing tiny “Aminocollagen” lettering visible under magnification, but a photograph or mark does not replace checking where you buy. The full notice is linked below.

Seen a matcha-flavoured powder or a 125 mL drink? Those are separate flavours or formats; this comparison does not apply the four formulas’ ingredients and instructions to them. Decide whether you want loose powder, sachets or a ready-to-drink product before comparing pack sizes.

My shelf shortcut: regular for the basic formula; Premium, NMN or Ca styles for an addition you specifically want; NMN sachets if measuring is the sticking point. Then check allergens, your existing supplements and the actual pack. You do not need all four bags.
