Hi, I’m Irene, a Taiwanese pharmacist working in Japan.
You may already recognize EVE, but the gold box marked “THREE SHOT PREMIUM” raises a fresh question: what is different about this one? Let’s open up the formula first, without having to memorize the whole range.
EVE THREE SHOT PREMIUM (イブスリーショットプレミアム) combines ibuprofen and acetaminophen in one formula and leaves out the sedative ingredient that can cause drowsiness. It also contains magnesium oxide and caffeine. Here is what those ingredients do, followed by the directions that are easiest to mix up with another EVE product.
- Two pain relievers: 195 mg of each in a three-tablet dose.
- The formula leaves out the drowsiness-causing sedative ingredient.
- Ages 15 and over: three tablets, up to twice daily, at least six hours apart. Check the do-not-use and consultation sections before taking it.

Inside the gold box: four ingredients per dose
All amounts below are the total in three tablets, not in one tablet. The Japanese label includes headaches, period pain and pain associated with stiff shoulders among its pain-relief uses, as well as reducing fever and fever-related chills.
Ibuprofen | 195 mg
A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces prostaglandin production to relieve pain and fever.
Acetaminophen | 195 mg
Also called paracetamol, this is another fever reducer and pain reliever, acting mainly in the central nervous system. It is already in this product, so do not add a medicine containing it yourself.
Magnesium oxide | 70 mg
Included as a gastric-mucosal protective ingredient. It also helps ibuprofen dissolve faster as part of this formulation’s design.
Anhydrous caffeine | 65 mg
Supports ibuprofen’s pain-relieving effect. If you pay attention to caffeine intake, remember that this product contains it; the absence of a sedative does not make this a two-ingredient formula.
The manufacturer’s Quick Action process concerns how quickly ibuprofen dissolves. It does not establish a guaranteed number of minutes until your pain stops, or mean this product suits everyone better than another EVE.
Magnesium oxide does not remove stomach precautions. The leaflet still says to avoid taking it on an empty stomach where possible and lists stomach pain and gastrointestinal bleeding among possible side effects. A history of stomach or duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease requires advice before use.
What changes from the familiar EVE formulas?
EVE A, EVE A EX, EVE QUICK and EVE QUICK DX contain allylisopropylacetylurea (アリルイソプロピルアセチル尿素), a sedative ingredient used to support pain relief. It can cause drowsiness, and those four products’ leaflets say not to drive or operate machinery after taking them.
THREE SHOT PREMIUM omits that ingredient. SSP also states that the formula contains no drowsiness-causing ingredient. This describes the formula, rather than guaranteeing every person’s response. Dizziness and blurred vision are still listed as possible side effects. Stop and seek advice if these occur, and do not drive while affected.

A note from Irene
Use the absence of a sedative as one piece of information. Your medical history, what you have already taken today and the symptoms you are treating still matter. Different EVE formulas do not need to become a ranking of good and bad choices.
For pack photos, ingredients and dose intervals across the range, see the five-product EVE comparison. This guide stays with the gold box itself.
How to take it: three tablets per dose
- Ages 15 and over: three tablets per dose, no more than twice a day.
- Leave at least six hours between doses. Pain after one hour does not permit an early extra dose.
- Do not give to anyone under 15. Do not create a child’s dose by reducing the tablet count.
- Avoid an empty stomach where possible and swallow with water or lukewarm water. Remove tablets from the blister first; never swallow the packaging.
Do not take other fever/pain medicines, cold medicines or sedatives while using this product. Do not drink alcohol before or after taking it. Do not add another EVE, ibuprofen or acetaminophen product yourself. If you have already taken medicine today, show a doctor or pharmacist the names, doses and times rather than estimating a switching interval.
Do not take it, or ask first? Keep the two lists separate
Do not take this product if you:
- Have had an allergic reaction to this product or any of its ingredients, including ibuprofen, acetaminophen or another component.
- Have developed asthma after this product, another fever/pain medicine or a cold medicine.
- Are under 15.
- Are pregnant and within 12 weeks of your expected delivery date.
Consult before taking it if you:
- Are under a doctor’s or dentist’s care.
- Are pregnant, may be pregnant or are breastfeeding. Pregnancy within 12 weeks of the expected delivery date belongs in the do-not-take list above.
- Are an older adult, or have had allergic symptoms from another medicine or substance. Allergy to this product or its ingredients means do not take it.
- Have been diagnosed with heart, kidney or liver disease, systemic lupus erythematosus or mixed connective tissue disease.
- Have a history of stomach or duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease.
You can consult a doctor, dentist, pharmacist or registered OTC medicine seller in Japan. A diagnosis of liver or kidney disease is itself a reason to ask first; do not assume the rule applies only to poor test results. Frequent stomach discomfort is also worth explaining before choosing a medicine.
When to stop, rather than taking the next dose
- No improvement after three to four doses: stop and take the leaflet to a doctor, dentist, pharmacist or registered OTC medicine seller. Do not use continuously long term.
- Suspected side effects: stop immediately and seek advice for symptoms such as rash, itching, stomach pain, bloody stools, dizziness, palpitations or shortness of breath.
- Serious symptoms: seek immediate medical care for breathing difficulty, impaired consciousness, chest pain, or high fever with a widespread rash.
- Persistent or worsening constipation: stop and seek advice. Read the leaflet for the full adverse-effect list.
A headache unlike any you have had before, or pain that is noticeably different, also needs assessment rather than repeated self-medication. Store the medicine in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and children. Keep it in its original container and do not use it after expiry.
A simple check when you see the gold box:
Full product name → two analgesics plus caffeine → medical history and today’s other medicines → three tablets, twice daily at most, six hours apart. Use the five-product comparison when you want to check another EVE, so its directions do not get mixed into this one.
Frequently asked questions
How many pain-relieving ingredients are in EVE THREE SHOT PREMIUM?
There are two: ibuprofen and acetaminophen, with 195 mg of each per three-tablet dose. The same dose also contains magnesium oxide 70 mg and anhydrous caffeine 65 mg. Do not infer the ingredient count or dose from the product name.
What does “no drowsiness-causing ingredient” mean?
This formula omits allylisopropylacetylurea, the sedative ingredient in the other four EVE products. It still contains two pain relievers. The manufacturer is describing the formula, not guaranteeing every individual’s response. Stop and seek advice for suspected side effects such as dizziness or blurred vision, and do not drive while affected.
Does magnesium oxide make it safe to take on an empty stomach?
No. Magnesium oxide is included as a gastric-mucosal protective ingredient and contributes to the formulation’s faster ibuprofen dissolution. The leaflet still says to avoid an empty stomach where possible. Consult before use if you have a history of stomach or duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease.
How many tablets should I take, and can I take more after an hour?
For ages 15 and over, take three tablets per dose, no more than twice a day, leaving at least six hours between doses. Under-15s must not take it. Do not take an early extra dose after an hour. A headache unlike any you have had before needs medical assessment rather than more self-medication.
Can I combine it with cold medicine, another painkiller or alcohol?
Do not take other fever/pain medicines, cold medicines or sedatives while using this product. Do not drink alcohol before or after taking it. It already contains ibuprofen and acetaminophen; do not add another EVE product, another painkiller or a medicine containing either ingredient yourself.
When should I stop if it is not helping?
If symptoms have not improved after three to four doses, stop and take the leaflet to a doctor, dentist, pharmacist or registered OTC medicine seller. Do not use continuously long term. Suspected side effects or serious symptoms call for help sooner; do not wait for the dose count.
