CANMAKE Marshmallow Finish Powder vs Abloom: How to Choose in Japan

CANMAKE powder comparison: original Marshmallow ML10g on the left and Marshmallow Abloom01 4g on the right, complete compacts. Compare purpose, application, cleansing and refills. Japan Drugstore Guides

Choose CANMAKE Marshmallow Finish Powder by the job you want it to do. Start with the original for a skin-toned powder that softens the appearance of pores and uneven colour. Consider Abloom for five-colour complexion correction with a soft-matte finish. The compact design and the larger SPF number should not make the decision for you.

Irene

I’m Irene, a Taiwanese pharmacist working in a Japanese drugstore. This guide turns the Japanese product information into a practical checklist: what is inside, how to apply it, how to remove it and which refill to buy. It is not a personal wear test or an all-shade comparison.

Japanese official information checked: October 22, 2026 (Japan time). This comparison covers the regular-size original and Marshmallow Finish Powder ~Abloom~, not mini versions or the separate Illuminating Finish Powder ~Abloom~.

Both are soft-matte powders. What do you want to adjust?

Original: start with skin-toned coverage

Original example: ML マットライトオークル, 10g. Shown for identification, not a shade recommendation.

CANMAKE positions the original as a light face powder for covering the appearance of pores and uneven colour. It can also take the place of foundation for a natural-looking makeup routine. Check its shade against your base makeup rather than choosing from the case alone.

Current Japanese specification: 10g, SPF50 PA+++. The ML example is not a recommendation for every skin tone.

Abloom: start with five-colour correction

Abloom example: 01 ディアレストブーケ, 4g. This is not a universal shade-match claim.

The five colours are designed to be mixed for a brighter-looking complexion, while retaining a soft-matte finish. That is a makeup effect, not a treatment that changes your skin colour.

Current Japanese specification: 4g, SPF19 PA++. Abloom does not automatically mean shimmer, and this specification is not for the mini version.

The images identify products, not their results on skin. Screen colours may differ from the actual product. We have not tested which lasts longer, controls oil better or provides more coverage.

Abloom’s half-circle and full-circle instructions have different purposes

For the original, CANMAKE recommends patting gently with the puff, usually after liquid or cream foundation if you use one. Keep the protective film supplied with the original.

For Abloom, pick up powder in a half-circle for a subtler brightening effect, or a full circle for a more noticeable effect. On first use, work the colours together on the puff before patting onto the face. If you are unsure how bright you want the finish, start with the manufacturer’s half-circle method. More is not automatically better—and a circle of powder is not a sunscreen dosage.

Face-wash removal has an important condition

Both products say they can be removed with soap or face wash when used alone. That does not apply automatically to everything underneath them. If you also wear sunscreen, primer or foundation, choose cleansing according to the removal instructions for the whole routine.

SPF50 versus SPF19 is not your whole sun-protection plan

Each number belongs to its own formula. The Japan Cosmetic Industry Association warns that too little product or uneven application can reduce protection, and friction can remove it. A light dusting of powder does not establish that you have achieved the protection on its label.

Separate your powder preference from your UV routine: choose sun protection for your activities, follow its directions, reapply as needed and use measures such as a hat or parasol. Do not choose a finish you do not want just because one compact has the higher SPF.

Refills can fit the same case without being the same powder

CANMAKE’s Q&A confirms that the regular original, this Abloom and Illuminating Finish Powder ~Abloom~ use compatible metal refill pans, including with limited-edition cases. Remove the empty pan before inserting the refill. This statement does not establish compatibility with minis or every CANMAKE compact.

An original case may therefore contain Abloom. The manufacturer recommends transferring the refill’s shade label to the bottom of the compact. I also suggest keeping its full product name so you can repurchase the contents rather than the case. A shared case does not mean shared formula, shade, quantity or SPF.

A four-point check at the Japanese drugstore

  1. Full name: original, Marshmallow Abloom or the separate Illuminating Abloom?
  2. Format: regular size or mini; compact included or refill only (リフィル)?
  3. Shade: our examples are original ML and Abloom 01, not automatic recommendations.
  4. Your product’s label: check SPF/PA, use and removal instructions before buying.

CANMAKE lists Abloom as available at selected stores; a product page is not proof that every drugstore has stock. If your current powder already meets your needs, there is no need to collect both just for their cases.

Keep the puff clean and stop if your skin reacts

Follow CANMAKE’s puff-care advice: use a dedicated puff cleaner or diluted neutral detergent, rinse thoroughly and dry in the shade. Watch for skin abnormalities and discontinue if the product does not suit you. Keep it out of infants’ reach and away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight; read the cautions on the actual packaging.
