Which Utena Yuzuyu product should you choose? Look at Hair Oil if you want to adjust the amount drop by drop, Oil Mist if you prefer a spray for dry or towel-dried hair, and Hair Milk if you want a lotion-style step before blow-drying. Start with the step you need; buying the whole range is unnecessary.

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born, Japan-licensed pharmacist working in a Japanese drugstore. Not every bottle in the ゆず油 range is an oil-only formula. The useful differences are when you apply it, whether it needs shaking, and which Japanese name to look for.
Oil Mist and Oil Spray are different products
Look for ゆず油 and the Japanese product names below. This guide focuses on Hair Oil, Oil Mist and Hair Milk, but they are not the entire lineup: Utena added Oil Spray on September 1, 2026. オイルミスト and the aerosol オイルスプレー are separate products, not two names for the same bottle.
Choose the application step that suits your routine
Hair Oil|ヘアオイル, 60 mL
Drop-by-drop application is useful if you want control over the amount on your ends. Utena positions this formula for hair that spreads out with waves or curls; it is not a permanent straightening product.
For leave-in care, spread a few drops between your palms, distribute through partially dry hair with emphasis on the ends, then blow-dry. For styling, add one or two drops at a time, lightly working from the ends. That styling amount is not a universal leave-in dose for every hair length.

Oil Mist|オイルミスト, 180 mL
Consider this if you prefer a spray bottle and will remember to shake it. It has two layers: shake about ten times before every use to mix them.
For leave-in use, spray onto dry or towel-dried hair, distribute, then air-dry or blow-dry. Its in-shower method is different: after shampooing, remove excess water, apply and distribute the mist, then apply a hair treatment and rinse. Do not confuse the two routines or store the bottle in the bathroom.

Hair Milk|ヘアミルク, 120 mL
Consider this if you want a lotion-style step before drying. Utena positions it for spreading hair associated with accumulated damage, flyaways and split ends. Cosmetic “repair” language should not be read as a promise to permanently restore split ends.
Distribute an appropriate amount through towel-dried hair, then blow-dry. It can also be used on dry hair. The official instructions do not set a universal number of pumps, so do not force your routine to match a number from someone else’s hair.

Check each formula, not just the brand’s “free-from” message
Hair Oil is labeled alcohol-free and silicone-free. Oil Mist lists ethanol, while Hair Milk lists dimethicone. If you avoid a particular ingredient, check the exact product. The range has a yuzu scent; no added synthetic fragrance does not mean no smell. Manufacturer patch testing does not guarantee that no user will experience irritation.
The newer Oil Spray: a separate option for flyaways
オイルスプレー, 120 g is an aerosol that the brand positions for flyaways and shine. It is not an Oil Mist refill. This guide does not turn the brand’s lasting-effect claims into a promise for every user.

Shake up and down, keep the can upright, then spray through the hair and distribute with fingers or a brush. Do not use on the face or inhale; use in a ventilated space. Do not spray one area continuously for three seconds or longer. Keep away from flame and places reaching 40°C or more. Overspray makes floors slippery.
Do you need to layer oil, milk and mist?
No need to build a full set. Ask whether you want help before blow-drying or when tidying dry ends. Choose one matching that step, follow its directions, and assess whether your hair feels weighed down before adding anything else.
Avoid use on an injured, swollen or eczematous scalp. Stop and consult a dermatologist if redness, itching or irritation occurs; rinse immediately if product enters the eyes. Utena advises against carrying the glass Hair Oil bottle around. Keep mist and spray off floors. A product you will use correctly is more useful than the most ambitious “repair” wording.
