&honey Hair Oils: Deep vs Melty vs Milky in Japan

Three Japanese &honey hair oils: complete Deep 100mL, Melty 100mL and Milky 105mL bottles, with manufacturer-positioned finish labels Japan Drugstore Guides

Choose an &honey oil by the finish you want: start with Deep Moist 3.0 for shine and manageability, Melty Moist Repair 3.0 for dryness-related frizz, or Milky Precious EX Repair for a richer conditioning focus. All three are leave-in hair oils.

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born pharmacist licensed in Japan and working in a Japanese drugstore. With these honey-inspired bottles, I start with the finish you want, then check the full name so the bottle you take home matches your choice.

Start with the finish, then check the scent

  • Deep: a shine-and-control starting point with a rose-honey fragrance.
  • Melty: consider it when dry-feeling, unruly lengths and rough finger-combing are your main concerns.
  • Milky: consider its rich conditioning positioning if you prefer a more moisturized finish and a sweet cherry fragrance.

Finish and fragrance descriptions follow the brand; your hair, amount and routine affect the result. This is a comparison of three representative Japanese-market oils, not the entire &honey range or a performance ranking. The current Japanese site also includes Rich and Professional ranges.

You can choose one main priority without treating the word “repair” as a reason to give up a finish you enjoy.

Check the full name on the bottle

1. Deep: the clear golden bottle

&honey ディープモイスト ヘアオイル3.0
Deep Moist Hair Oil 3.0 · 100 mL

Complete Japanese &honey Deep Moist Hair Oil 3.0 100 mL pump bottle, with original product lettering
Look for Deep Moist Hair Oil and STEP 3.0 on this standard bottle.

The brand uses a melting-honey-oil description and emphasizes shine and manageability. Its Damask Rose Honey fragrance gives this option a floral-honey identity. Consider it if smoother, tidier-looking ends are the result you want.

The Deep range also contains Moist Shine and EX Deep Moist oils, both labeled 3.0 and 100 mL. Their fragrances and finish claims belong to those separate products. The photograph here identifies standard Deep Moist.

2. Melty: pink is only the first clue

&honey メルティ モイストリペア ヘアオイル3.0
Melty Moist Repair Hair Oil 3.0 · 100 mL

Complete Japanese &honey Melty Moist Repair Hair Oil 3.0 100 mL pump bottle, with original product lettering
The standard oil has a rose-gold pump and Moist Repair Oil lettering.

Melty emphasizes smoothness and management of dryness-related frizz. The manufacturer qualifies its frizz claim as hair losing suppleness through dryness and becoming difficult to manage. That is a cosmetic styling-and-conditioning aim, not permanent straightening of natural curls.

This bottle’s fragrance is Shower Rose Honey. Another Melty oil has a brighter pink bottle, gold pump, Moist Rich Oil lettering and Velvet Rose Honey fragrance. Check the Repair wording and 100 mL together when buying again.

3. Milky: the range name does not make this a milk

&honey ミルキー プレシャス EX リペア ヘアオイル
Milky Precious EX Repair Hair Oil · 105 mL

Complete Japanese &honey Milky Precious EX Repair Hair Oil 105 mL pump bottle, with original product lettering
Look for the gold pump, cream-colored decoration and Hair Oil wording.

Milky positions this oil as rich conditioning for dry, damaged-feeling hair, with an emphasis on a moisturized, smooth finish. The scent is Cherry Sweet Honey; cherry is different from a cherry-blossom limited edition.

Milky is the range name. The oil here is 105 mL; the white-pump Hair Milk is 180 g. Both appear in the brand’s 3.0 leave-in stage, but their amounts and optional combined routine differ.

How much, and when? Separate oil-only use from layering

Using one oil: start on towel-dried hair

  1. Remove excess water with a towel. The directions for each of these three oils describe application to towel-dried hair.
  2. Spread an appropriate amount across your palms.Work in small portions instead of placing a large amount on one section. Remove the stopper below Melty’s pump before first use.
  3. Distribute mainly through the ends.Adjust for length, density and the finish you want; there is no need to pile oil onto the scalp.

Deep and Melty: the product directions say an appropriate amount, without a universal pump count. Milky: the current brand comparison graphic gives two pumps for medium-length hair. That guide belongs to this product and hair-length example, not to the other two oils or to each section of hair.

If you use both Milky Hair Milk and Hair Oil

The brand’s optional combined routine is towel-dry → milk → blow-dry → oil. It places the two leave-ins on either side of blow-drying. This is a separate scenario from the oil-only towel-dried-hair directions; it does not mean Milky oil can only be applied to dry hair.

Optional Milky milk-and-oil routine: Hair Milk180g before blow-drying and Hair Oil105mL afterward; two-pump oil guide for medium hair; schematic palm application is not a measured dose

If your dried hair already feels too coated or looks oilier than you prefer, pause before adding more. Finding an amount you enjoy is more useful than layering all three oils.

Questions before buying

Does 3.0 mean third generation or triple strength?

No. The numbers identify stages such as shampoo 1.0, treatment 2.0 and leave-in care 3.0. They are not concentration or repair-strength scores, and they do not require you to buy a full set.

How sweet or long-lasting is the fragrance?

The names describe floral or fruity honey scents, but do not establish how strong, sweet or persistent they will seem to you. If a shop offers a fragrance tester, use it before deciding. Check the full name again when replacing a limited scent or a different regional version.

Must fine hair avoid one of these?

Start with your preferred finish and application amount rather than a rigid hair-type rule. If flatness worries you, try a small amount at the ends and judge the finish after drying. For a separate comparison of lightness and wet-look styling options, see my guide to five Japanese LUCIDO-L oils.

Does “repair” permanently restore split ends?

These are hair-care cosmetics focused on conditioning, feel, shine and manageability. They do not promise permanent reconstruction of hair or treatment of hair loss. If you are still choosing between a rinse-out mask, milk and oil, the fino guide explains those different care stages.

What precautions matter?

Avoid irritated or damaged skin. Stop if redness, swelling, itching or irritation develops and seek advice from a dermatologist. Avoid the eyes; rinse immediately if contact occurs and seek medical advice if discomfort persists. Store out of children’s reach, away from extreme temperatures and direct sun. Deep’s labeling also warns about flames and applying or drying it in a room with an operating kerosene or gas fan heater. Follow your own bottle’s precautions.

A simple way to decide

Deep for shine and manageability; Melty for dryness-related frizz; Milky for a richer conditioning focus and sweet cherry scent. Confirm the full name and size, then find a small amount that works in your routine. A bottle you enjoy using matters more than remembering a popular color.
