Shiseido Eyelash Curler or Mini? A Japan Buying and Replacement-Pad Guide

Shiseido standard and mini eyelash curlers with their matching replacement pads; choose curler format and verify pad compatibility Japan Drugstore Guides

For an everyday curler, start with the standard model if it fits your eyelid contour. For a few lashes at the inner or outer corner, consider the mini. Buy replacement pads for the exact curler—not just because the brand or red packaging looks familiar.

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born pharmacist working in a Japanese drugstore. This guide connects the part of your lashes you want to curl with the Japanese product names and matching pads, so a popular name does not turn into the wrong purchase.

Japan product information checked: October 21, 2026. This guide covers the Japanese Shiseido standard and mini curlers and their pads. It does not treat overseas versions, SHISEIDO Makeup or MAQuillAGE as the same product.

Choose the job first—you may not need both

You want an everyday standard curler

Complete Japanese Shiseido standard Eyelash Curler
Current Japanese name: 資生堂 アイラッシュカーラー

Start by considering アイラッシュカーラー. This is the standard model. It is a candidate for everyday curling, provided the frame suits your eyelid contour. A Japanese brand or an “Asian eyes” description cannot guarantee your individual fit.

If it repeatedly pinches your lid, or reaching the outer lashes seems to require more pressure, pause and reassess the positioning, condition and fit. Squeezing harder is not the answer.

Most lashes are curled; you want detail work

Complete Japanese Shiseido Mini Eyelash Curler
Current Japanese name: 資生堂 ミニアイラッシュカーラー

Consider ミニアイラッシュカーラー. Shiseido describes this as a tool for selected areas such as the inner and outer corners. “Mini” refers to its targeted role; it is not simply the standard model in a travel size.

If your existing curler already gives you the result you want, there is no need to add one. Nor does a smaller frame guarantee that it will never pinch a particular eyelid.

What happened to 213, 215, 214 and 216?

Older references use 213 for the standard curler, 215 for the mini, 214 for standard replacement pads and 216 for mini pads. Those numbers appear in earlier names and packaging. The current Japanese official listings omit them, and product galleries show old and new packaging.

Not seeing “213” on the shelf therefore does not necessarily mean you are in the wrong place. Read the full Japanese name, especially ミニ (mini) and 替えゴム (replacement pads). Historical numbers and a red packet are not universal compatibility specifications across product lines or countries.

Match the pads to the curler

Standard curler: the two-pad packet

Current Japanese Shiseido standard replacement-pad packet containing two pads
資生堂 アイラッシュカーラー 替えゴム / 2コ入り

For the standard model in this guide. Older references call these 214. The name does not contain ミニ, and the packet holds two longer pads.

Mini curler: the three-pad packet

Current Japanese Shiseido mini replacement-pad packet containing three pads
資生堂 ミニアイラッシュカーラー 替えゴム / 3コ入り

For the mini model in this guide. Older references call these 216. Look for ミニ and ポイントカール用 (for targeted curling); the packet holds three shorter pads.

替えゴム means spare pads, not another curler. Each current curler includes one spare pad, so check what you already have before buying an additional packet.

A useful question in a Japanese store

このビューラーに合う替えゴムはどれですか?

“Which replacement pads fit this curler?” Show the tool, its packaging or a clear photograph so staff can check the full product name. Do not assume an overseas or different-line curler uses the same pads just because it is Shiseido. Do not cut or force an unsuitable pad into place.

Check before squeezing harder

  1. Inspect the tool. Look for a bent or distorted frame and split or damaged pads. For the standard model, Shiseido also says to check that the upper frame meets the centre of the pad. Do not use it if it is misaligned.
  2. Use light, gradual pressure. For the standard model, look downward and gently catch the lashes near their roots. With the mini, work only on the section you want to adjust. Move in stages towards the tips rather than pressing hard at one point.
  3. Wipe and store carefully. Remove dirt with tissue or a dry cloth after use. Protect the frame from being crushed in your bag and keep it out of young children’s reach.

Shiseido warns that excessive pressure can break lashes, and split pads can break or pull them out. Replace a split pad; stop using a distorted curler. A new pad cannot repair a damaged frame. Follow the installation direction on your own packet and check that the pad is fully seated in its groove.

For both curlers, the manufacturer gives about one year as a replacement guide under correct use. That is not permission to keep using a damaged tool for a year, or a promise that changing pads makes the frame last indefinitely.

Eye pain is not something to practise through.

Stop if using the curler hurts. If it injures your eye, do not rub the eye or continue eye makeup. Seek immediate medical care for vision changes, light sensitivity or severe eye pain after an injury. Persistent discomfort or concern about an injury also warrants medical advice—not another curler.

A quick check before paying

  • Do I want an everyday standard curler or targeted corner work?
  • Am I holding the tool itself or a 替えゴム refill packet?
  • Does the full pad name match whether my curler is ミニ?
  • Do I need another tool, or is my existing frame damaged and no longer suitable for use?

Start with purpose and fit, then match the refill. Buying a complete set is less useful than buying the right piece.
