KOSÉ Make Keep Mist EX+: Original or Moist Y?

KOSÉ setting mist comparison: original EX+ 80mL on the left and limited yuzu Moist Y 80mL on the right. Choose by finish, fragrance and application. Japan Drugstore Guides

Original EX+ or the yuzu-scented Moist Y? Start with the finish you want, then check fragrance and application. Both are used after makeup: “Moist” does not make this a pre-makeup toner, and more spray is not automatically better.

Choose by finish and fragrance, not bottle color alone

Original: a starting point for everyday makeup setting

Original EX+; check the name and size rather than relying on the bottle color.

KOSÉ positions it as a finishing mist to help makeup resist sweat, water and sebum. Consider it if you want a final setting step; that does not mean it is exclusively for oily skin.

  • 80mL; Maison KOSÉ price: ¥1,430 including tax.
  • Fragrance: ジューシーフローラル (Juicy Floral).
  • Official product code: DLEA.

Moist Y: consider dryness and a dewy finish

メイク キープ ミスト EX + モイスト Y

Moist Y is the limited yuzu-scented version, not a generic name for every yellow bottle.

KOSÉ positions this moisturizing version for maintaining makeup and a dewy finish in dry conditions. Consider it when dryness and glow matter to your choice. It is not simply a “stronger” original, nor a guaranteed match for all dry skin.

  • 80mL; Maison KOSÉ price: ¥1,430 including tax.
  • Fragrance: ゆず (yuzu).
  • Official product code: DLBI. Limited edition, launched September 16, 2026.

Buying neither is an option. If you already like your makeup, an extra step is not compulsory. If trying one, choose the finish first, then check fragrance and ingredients. You do not need both.

For both: shake first, then spray after makeup

  1. Shake at least 10 times. Both are two-layer formulas.
  2. Use as the final makeup step. Do not move Moist Y into your skincare routine simply because of its name.
  3. Hold about 15cm from your face, with eyes and mouth closed. The guideline is 5–6 pumps across the face. Move the bottle quickly from top to bottom while pressing to distribute the mist evenly.
  4. Do not keep adding spray indiscriminately. KOSÉ allows another 1–2 pumps if coverage is incomplete or on areas where mask or collar friction is a concern.
  5. Leave the skin untouched and let it dry naturally. Do not add a patting step or an invented fixed drying time.

Before replacing a bottle because the result disappoints, check shaking, distance and whether you touched the skin before it dried. This is a troubleshooting order, not a guarantee against makeup breakdown; other products and conditions also matter.

Touch-ups and removal need their own steps

For the original EX+, KOSÉ’s touch-up FAQ says to blot sweat and oil with tissue, touch up foundation or other makeup, then finish with 5–6 pumps. The mist does not replace foundation that has already come off.

Both require makeup remover. Do not assume water or ordinary face wash is sufficient because the bottle resembles a hydrating mist. Follow the cleansing instructions for the rest of your makeup too.

Check alcohol, fragrance and safety before buying

Both ingredient lists contain ethanol (エタノール) and fragrance. If you need to avoid either, neither meets that requirement. Yuzu or moisturizing ingredients do not guarantee irritation-free use. Check the actual pack’s ingredients and precautions.

Keep eyes and mouth closed during application. If product gets into an eye, rinse thoroughly with running water; persistent pain or redness, or a large amount entering the eye, calls for at least 10 minutes of rinsing and prompt care from an eye specialist, taking the product and ingredient label, under KOSÉ’s safety guidance. Stop and rinse off if redness, itching, swelling or pain develops, and consult a dermatologist.

The original EX+ instructions specifically warn against heating a cold, whitened or clumped product in a hot-water bath or microwave: heat can damage the formula or bottle and cause injury. Follow the pack for storage and other precautions.

At the shelf, check the full name, fragrance and volume

Keep the Japanese name when shopping for yourself or someone else. Confirm 80mL and whether the label says “モイスト Y”; “red bottle” or “yellow bottle” is not enough. Reviews of another year’s limited edition cannot establish this version’s formula or finish.

Decision order: decide whether you need a setting mist, choose the finish and fragrance you can accept, then check that its application and removal fit your routine. If not, you do not have to choose either.
