Clinica PRO Alarm Handle Toothbrushes: Rows, Head Size and Firmness

Four representative Japanese Clinica PRO Alarm Handle toothbrush packs, not all six combinations in the article. Japan Drugstore Guides

Looking for a soft Clinica PRO toothbrush? In the Alarm Handle range, soft bristles are available only with four rows. Read the row count, head size and firmness separately rather than choosing by colour.

Irene

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born pharmacist licensed in Japan. Here is how to read the Japanese labels without confusing brush shape with bristle firmness.

Japanese official information checked: 23 October 2026 (Japan time). Scope: a label-reading guide for adult shoppers choosing クリニカPRO ハブラシ アラームハンドル. It does not recommend a brush for children or individual dental conditions.

First, find the full product name

Look for アラームハンドル (Alarm Handle), not just PRO. The Clinica range also includes a different PRO Rubber Head brush, toothpaste and rinses. Check the full name and product type before buying; this comparison covers only the manual Alarm Handle brush.

If you are buying a replacement in Japan for someone in Taiwan or Hong Kong, bring a photo of the old pack that shows all three labels below. A matching handle colour alone is not enough.

Read three labels on the pack

Six row–size–firmness combinations in the current official listing
Rows and head labelふつう — standardやわらかめ — soft
3列 超コンパクトListedNot listed
3列 コンパクトListedNot listed
4列 超コンパクトListedListed
4列 コンパクトListedListed

列 counts the rows of bristles. 超コンパクト and コンパクト are the two head-size names. ふつう and やわらかめ describe firmness. “Four rows” does not mean “hard,” and “super-compact” does not mean “soft.”

Lion describes the three-row head as slim for brushing individual teeth, and the four-row head as tapered for reaching farther back. These are design descriptions, not a result from a comparison test carried out for this blog. The official pages checked do not give a complete millimetre-by-millimetre head-size table, so no dimensions are estimated here.

Choose around the part you find awkward to reach

Use the package labels to narrow the choice
Your questionWhat to check next
I want to guide the brush around one tooth at a time.Compare the three-row slim shape and the two head-size labels. Do not assume three rows automatically means a better fit for you.
My current head feels too bulky at the back.Compare the actual head outline and size with your current brush. The four-row tapered shape and the head-size choice are separate decisions.
I already know I need soft bristles.Within this range, look at the four-row options, then choose the head size. Do not buy a three-row pack expecting a soft version.
This is for a child, braces or implants. That suitability question is outside this guide. Do not decide from PRO or super-compact alone; confirm the exact brush and technique with the dental professional who knows the user.

If your dentist or dental hygienist has given you a specific brush or firmness recommendation, use that as your starting point. This is a label-reading guide, not a way to diagnose gum problems or treat them by changing firmness. No minimum age or individual suitability is established by the official product pages checked here.

What the click is telling you

The handle flexes and clicks to alert the user to excessive brushing force. Lion’s directions are to ease off and brush without making that sound. The slim, six-sided handle is designed to be held with a pen-style grip.

Do not press harder to make the brush click. The sound is a cue to change your pressure, not a cleaning target. Silence does not prove that every tooth has been cleaned or that your gums cannot be injured. The alert does not replace being shown a suitable technique.

Buying for a trip or for your household

  • Write down the complete choice, for example 4列・超コンパクト・やわらかめ, before comparing packs.
  • Keep each person’s brush separate. Lion says toothbrushes should not be shared, including within a family.
  • Lion suggests replacing a brush about monthly, and checking sooner when bristles splay or lose resilience. A clicking handle does not tell you whether the bristles are worn.
  • Do not disinfect the brush with boiling water or bleach; Lion warns that this can deform or damage it.

Before buying several of the same brush, make sure the first one is the exact size and firmness you intended. A listed option is not a promise that every Japanese store carries it.

A short phrase to show in the shop

「クリニカPROのアラームハンドル、4列・超コンパクト・やわらかめはありますか?」
“Do you have Clinica PRO Alarm Handle, four rows, super-compact, soft?”

Swap the row, size and firmness words only after checking the combination in the table. If the pack says ラバーヘッド, it is outside this comparison.
