Start with the finish you want: a blotting film, or a larger paper with powder. Japan’s GATSBY あぶらとりフィルム and パウダーつきあぶらとり紙 are dry blotting products, not wet facial wipes. The name “OIL CLEAR SHEET” alone does not tell you which kind of sheet you are holding.

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born pharmacist qualified in Japan. This guide uses official Japanese product information to explain the shopping differences and directions. It is not a hands-on performance comparison.
Blotting surface oil or wiping with a wet sheet?
These two products absorb oil from the surface of the face with a gentle press. If you want a wet facial sheet for wiping away sweat and dirt, see the separate GATSBY facial-wipe guide. Choose by the job you need done, rather than treating every GATSBY sheet as interchangeable.

Choose the finish, then the sheet size
Film: あぶらとりフィルム
OIL CLEAR SHEET | Japanese pack: 75 sheets | Each sheet: 9 × 5.5 cm
JAN: 4902806128031
This uses a soft black film. Mandom’s FAQ identifies the material as polypropylene and says either side can be used. Start here if you do not want the powdered-paper option. It is smaller than the paper below; these measurements describe the individual sheet, not its case.
Powder paper: パウダーつきあぶらとり紙
POWDERED OIL CLEAR PAPER | Japanese pack: 75 sheets | Each sheet: 10 × 10 cm
JAN: 4902806127881
This is black natural-pulp paper with oil-absorbing powder. The brand emphasises the smooth, dry feel after use. Consider it if you specifically want a powder finish and a larger sheet. The directions say to use the inner folded side, not either side indiscriminately.
Preferring a powder finish is different from proving that one product removes more oil from your skin or lasts longer. The Japanese film’s “No.1” claim is qualified as an in-company comparison, not an independent ranking of every brand. This guide does not measure oil uptake or makeup wear.
Which side to use, and how to press
- Check whether you have the film or the powdered paper.
- Use either side of the film. For the powdered paper, use the inner folded side.
- Press gently on the areas where surface oil bothers you, rather than rubbing back and forth.
There is no need to keep pressing until an entire sheet becomes transparent. That is not a target in the official directions, nor is the sheet’s appearance a way to diagnose oil production or skin health. These facial directions should not be turned into a fringe or scalp-care routine.
Do not rely on turning the powdered paper over to guarantee a completely powder-free result. If the powder finish is the deciding factor, make that distinction when choosing the product.
Why do some packs say 70 and Japan’s say 75?
The current Japanese pages checked for this guide list 75 sheets for both products. Taiwan’s official pages list 70 sheets for both. A 70-sheet listing therefore does not, by itself, establish that a product is counterfeit or expired. Nor does the count prove that products sold in different markets are identical.
When buying the Japanese versions, match the full Japanese name, 75-sheet count and JAN above. Older reviews and overseas listings can help you recognise the product family, but package colour and a remembered sheet count are not enough to identify today’s Japanese pack.
Care and a short buying checklist
The Japanese brand page says to keep the film away from high temperatures and direct sunlight. This guide covers the directions and storage advice verified in public primary sources; it is not a complete translation of every warning on the back of the pack. Read the full directions and cautions on the pack you buy before use.
- Want a powder finish? Compare the powdered paper. If not, start with the film option.
- Prefer a larger paper or a smaller film? Compare individual sheet dimensions, not photographs of the boxes.
- Actually need a wet wipe? Choose for that purpose instead; buying both categories is not compulsory.
If your existing blotting product already suits you, there is no need to replace it for a new package or brand. These products are not acne treatments or a way to suppress oil production. This guide also makes no promise that makeup or sunscreen will remain completely undisturbed.

Checked 27 October 2026. The main comparison is the Japanese 75-sheet versions; Taiwan’s 70-sheet listing illustrates a regional labelling difference. Prices, individual-store stock and identical formulations across markets are not guaranteed.
