A little lint on a dark shirt can be more noticeable once you are out of the hotel. If that is a recurring annoyance, MUJI’s portable clothing lint roller may deserve a place in your bag. The useful shopping detail is less obvious: the tool and its refill have very similar Japanese names.

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born pharmacist qualified in Japan. Here is a short guide to identifying the tool and buying its matching refill, based on MUJI’s official information rather than a hands-on test.
First purchase: look for 携帯用衣類クリーナー
The tool is called 携帯用衣類クリーナー: 携帯用 means portable, and 衣類 means clothing. Its JAN barcode is 4550344832059; MUJI’s shorter product number is 44832059. The listed size is approximately 2.6 cm in diameter × 11.5 cm high, useful when deciding whether to add it to your travel pouch.

MUJI describes it for removing dust and thread lint from clothing. Ask yourself whether you actually need those clothing touch-ups while away. If you already carry a suitable lint roller, there is no need to add a second one just because this is sold as a compact travel option.
The case doubles as the handle

According to MUJI, fitting the case on in the reverse direction makes it a handle. That explains why the closed cylinder and the longer tool in the photograph look different: they are two configurations of the same product.
Before using it, check the actual package instructions and the garment’s care information. This guide does not verify fabric-by-fabric suitability or provide instructions for peeling sheets or installing refills; follow the information supplied with the item.
Buying more tape: match the full refill name

For this tool, look for 携帯用衣類クリーナー用替えテープ. The final words, 替えテープ, mean replacement tape. The confirmed refill is JAN 4550344593479, product number 44593479, listed as two rolls, 25 wraps.
MUJI also sells a separately named 衣類クリーナー用替えテープ, JAN 4550344593462, listed as two rolls with 40 wraps. One official store article lists both refill packs at the same price. So neither “two rolls” nor a matching price identifies the portable refill. Check 携帯用 in the full name and the barcode; a generic webpage label such as 本体 is not enough either, because it also appears on the portable-refill listing.
A quick shopping check: buying the tool for the first time? Match 4550344832059. Replacing its tape? Match 4550344593479. These are the two confirmed items in this guide, not a claim that every other refill has been tested for fit.
