Kenei Baby Vaseline in Japan: 60g/100g Cosmetics vs OTC Petrolatum

Kenei Baby Vaseline 60g and 100g are cosmetic skincare products. Before comparing tube sizes, look for the label 化粧用油. The ingredient name 白色ワセリン alone does not tell you whether the product is a cosmetic or a medicine.

Irene

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born, Japan-licensed pharmacist. Let’s read the Japanese label before choosing a product for your family.

Japanese official information checked: 23 October 2026, Japan time. This guide covers the 60g and 100g products on Kenei’s linked Baby Vaseline page. The separate Baby Vaseline M, Soft and Lip products are excluded.

Read the product name and category together

The name on the front is ベビーワセリン (Baby Vaseline). The 60g label linked by the manufacturer gives the sales name ワセリンB(化粧用油). It is the sales name shown on that cosmetic label, not an additional product. Check the label on your own tube as well.

Two Japanese labels that answer different questions
Where to lookWhat it tells you
成分:白色ワセリンThe listed ingredient is white petrolatum.
販売名:ワセリンB(化粧用油)This identifies the cosmetic product. Do not borrow treatment claims from a different petrolatum medicine.

The cosmetic is labelled for protecting skin and lips, preventing dryness of the skin and lips, and maintaining the skin’s moisture and oil. A baby illustration or a familiar ingredient name is not a reason to use it on a rash, wound or other abnormal area.

60g or 100g: choose the amount you actually need

60g: less product to carry

Consider this size if you want to keep the original tube in a day bag. Check whether it fits your pouch rather than decanting it into a smaller pot.

100g: more product in one tube

Consider this size for a regular storage spot at home. The larger number describes quantity, not stronger action or a higher level of safety.

Both capacities appear on the same official product page. Compare a shop’s actual price per gram only after checking the full product name and category.

The skin condition comes before the size

Do not use this cosmetic on wounds, swelling, eczema or other abnormal areas. If you are looking for help with a skin problem rather than routine protection from dryness, show the affected area and the exact product to a pharmacist or clinician instead of choosing by the word Vaseline.

The manufacturer directs users to apply an appropriate amount directly to skin or lips. Watch for changes while using it. Stop and consult a dermatologist or other appropriate clinician if it does not suit your skin or lips, or if redness, swelling, itching, irritation, loss of skin colour or darkening appears during use or after sunlight exposure.

“Baby” is not a month-by-month age instruction. The label reviewed here does not specify a minimum age in months; this guide does not turn that absence into a recommendation for newborns or treatment of infant eczema.

Why the medicine beside it is a separate decision

Kenei also lists 白色ワセリン as a 第3類医薬品, a Japanese Class 3 OTC medicine, in 50g and 500g sizes. Its current linked leaflet includes chapped or cracked hands and feet, rough skin and skin protection among its indications. Those indications belong to that medicine, not to Baby Vaseline.

This distinction is not a purity or safety ranking. An ingredient name does not show how two finished products compare in refining, quality or suitability for an individual. Nor does “medicine” make a product suitable for every skin problem. The medicine’s leaflet calls for advice before use if there is a history of allergy to medicines or severe weeping or erosion of the skin.

The medicine is mentioned only to help identify the category. This is not a treatment guide for it: read its own full leaflet and ask a pharmacist about suitability rather than transferring this cosmetic’s instructions. Propet and other brands are outside the comparison.

Keep the original label with the product

  • Do not transfer Baby Vaseline into another container.
  • Keep it closed in a cool, relatively dry place, out of children’s reach and away from direct sunlight. The linked 60g label also says to avoid extreme heat or cold.
  • If the 60g product becomes firm in the cold, its label says to return it to room temperature before use.
  • Check the expiry marking on your own tube and read that tube’s instructions. A different-market pack or a similar product name needs a fresh check.

A three-question check at the shelf

  1. Is this the cosmetic ベビーワセリン, with the expected sales name and capacity?
  2. Do I want routine dryness protection, or am I trying to treat an abnormal area?
  3. Can I use and store this amount in its original tube?

That order keeps the decision focused on the label and your purpose. It does not require a popularity ranking or a claim that one size is “best for babies.”
