Start with standard Asahi Perfect Asta Collagen if you want a powder to stir into a familiar drink or food. Compare gold-bag Premier Rich if you specifically want its placenta, ceramide and other additions. The serving weights differ, and the large bags provide about 60 versus 50 days, so check both before buying.

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born, Japan-licensed pharmacist working in a Japanese drugstore. Let’s make the pink and gold bags easier to choose: what you would mix the powder into, how much to measure, and who should leave these products on the shelf.
Sources checked on 19 October 2026, Japan time. This guide compares the current Japanese standard and Premier Rich powders. Ready-to-drink products, older formulas and versions sold in other markets need their own label checks.
First, an important exclusion: Asahi says pregnant or breastfeeding people, infants and children should not use either powder. Both declare shrimp, crab and gelatin allergens and use pig-derived collagen. Keep this in mind before buying a bag to share with the family.

Recognize the standard and Premier Rich bags

- Standard: the pink bag, labeled パーフェクトアスタコラーゲン パウダー. The pictured 225 g bag is approximately a 30-day supply.
- Premier Rich: the gold bag adds “Premier Rich/プレミアリッチ.” The pictured 228 g bag is also approximately a 30-day supply. Match that name as well as the color.
These are full current Japanese packages, shown at different scales. Asahi dates the standard formula update from September 2025 production and Premier Rich’s from September 2024. Older shopping guides and retailer ingredient listings may describe an earlier formula; check the bag you actually buy.
Powder weight and collagen weight are different numbers
| What to compare | Standard | Premier Rich |
|---|---|---|
| Powder per labeled serving | 7.4 g | 7.5 g |
| Collagen per serving | 5,300 mg | 5,500 mg |
| Vitamin C per serving | 100 mg | 100 mg |
| Small bag / about 30 days | 225 g | 228 g |
| Large bag / labeled duration | 447 g / about 60 days | 378 g / about 50 days |
The powder includes other ingredients, so 7.4 g of powder does not mean 7,400 mg of collagen. Premier Rich supplies 200 mg more collagen per serving. That difference cannot establish better skin, joint or anti-aging results. Both products are foods, and their ingredient amounts are not treatment-effect scores.
The current bag fronts state that the approximate number of days assumes one use a day. Follow the directions on your own pack. A “30-day” bag will not last a month regardless of how much you use, and there is no reason to round the serving weight up.
What changes in the gold bag?
Both list hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and B vitamins, lemon balm extract, lactic acid bacteria powder, glucosamine and CoQ10. Premier Rich is not simply every standard ingredient plus extras.
- Standard lists 1 mg elastin added per serving during manufacture, from pig elastin peptides. Elastin does not appear in Premier Rich’s current ingredient list.
- Premier Rich includes pig placenta extract powder, ceramide-containing pineapple extract, shell ginger leaf extract, royal jelly extract and enzyme-treated edible bird’s nest powder. Asahi also describes its collagen blend as low-molecular-weight plus nano collagen.
The advertised “12” and “16” are the maker’s ingredient counts. Neither those counts nor the word “nano” establishes superior results. If none of Premier Rich’s additional ingredients is something you intended to buy, standard is a reasonable starting point.
Read the placenta figure carefully: the detailed Premier Rich page lists 54.5 mg placenta extract powder per serving, equivalent to 1,500 mg extract. The larger front-of-pack number is not 1,500 mg of dried powder. It should not be added to the collagen figure as though the two numbers measured the same ingredient.
Choose a drink you already enjoy
Asahi presents these powders as easy to mix into drinks and foods. Its examples include coffee, milk, cocoa and yogurt. If you prefer not to prepare a separate supplement drink, adding powder to a familiar snack or drink is the practical appeal of this format.

These are Asahi’s warm-milk and hot-cocoa serving photos, not my taste test or a measured powder portion. Pour a drink you can finish into your own cup before adding the measured powder; this makes your intake easier to track than mixing it into a shared jug. Household spoons vary, so do not use a spoon pictured on a pack as a fixed 7.4 g or 7.5 g measure.
Asahi says both reformulations aim to reduce unwanted taste and odor in coffee. The flavor you notice will depend on the drink and your own preferences; neither is guaranteed to be completely tasteless in every cup. This is the maker’s description, not my comparative taste test. If flavor is your main concern, an approximately 30-day bag gives you a smaller commitment than stocking up on a large bag.
Choose a meal or drink that is easy to remember. The brand’s bedtime suggestions are routine ideas; they do not establish an extra benefit from taking the powder at night.
Large bags: 60 days for standard, 50 for Premier Rich

The standard large bag contains 447 g; Premier Rich contains 378 g. For a useful price comparison, divide the actual shelf price by the labeled number of servings. Two “large” bags do not represent the same duration, and a manufacturer’s suggested price is not a guaranteed store price.
For a first purchase, consider whether loose powder will suit your routine and taste preferences. A large bag makes more sense once you know you like the same formula and can follow its storage and use instructions. Check the seal, best-before date and complete ingredient label before buying.
Pig-derived ingredients and the actual allergens
The current Japanese allergen declaration for both powders is shrimp, crab and gelatin. Glucosamine is explicitly derived from shrimp and crab. Both powders use pig-derived collagen; Premier Rich also contains pig placenta extract and other animal ingredients. Neither suits a vegan diet or someone avoiding pig-derived ingredients.
The allergen declaration is not the complete ingredient list. Premier Rich’s royal jelly and pineapple-derived ingredient, for example, still matter if you have a known allergy. Do not assume an ingredient is suitable simply because it is absent from the three-item allergen declaration. The full current lists are available in the expandable ingredient sections of Asahi’s powder page below.
Neither product should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or by infants or children. If you take medicines or receive treatment, show the complete label to your doctor or pharmacist first. Stop using the product and seek advice if you feel unwell. Check other supplements you already take rather than combining multiple powders in pursuit of faster results.
Also considering Meiji?
These figures apply only to the two Asahi powders above. Meiji Amino Collagen has different ingredient sources and serving weights, so do not transfer the same spoonful or allergen assumptions between brands. My Meiji Amino Collagen comparison explains its four formulas using their own labels.
My buying order: check exclusions and ingredient suitability, decide whether you specifically want Premier Rich’s extra combination, then match the powder weight and 30-, 50- or 60-day bag to a drink you enjoy. A workable routine matters more than collecting larger ingredient numbers.
