Bifesta in Japan: Brightup vs Serum Moist Cleansing Water and Eye Remover

Bifesta Brightup, Serum Moist and Eye Remover comparison — English Japan Drugstore Guides

Start with the makeup you need to remove. For a cotton-pad cleanser for the whole face, compare Bifesta Brightup and Serum Moist. For stubborn waterproof mascara or long-wearing lip colour, consider the separate eye-and-lip remover rather than rubbing harder with cleansing water.

Irene

I’m Irene, a Taiwan-born, Japan-licensed pharmacist working in a Japanese drugstore. This guide separates current Japanese product names, intended uses and directions. It is a label-based buying guide, not my personal product test.

Japanese official information checked: October 22, 2026. Covers the two Japanese Micellar Cleansing Waters and Micellar Eye Makeup Remover, not cleansing sheets, foam face washes or the mascara-remover wand.

Choosing a full-face cleansing water

Brightup: cleansing away old skin cells and pore dirt

ミセラークレンジングウォーター ブライトアップ 400mL

The manufacturer positions this as the pore-and-dead-skin cleansing option, with a vitamin C derivative and lactic acid as a skin-softening ingredient. Consider it when that cleansing focus matches your needs. “Brightup” is not a promise to treat pigmentation or bleach your skin.

Serum Moist: a moisture-focused formula

ミセラークレンジングウォーター セラムモイスト 400mL

Mandom lists niacinamide for skin conditioning and hydrolysed hyaluronic acid for moisturising. This is the option to examine if a moisturising formula is your priority. An ingredient name does not reveal its concentration or turn a cleanser into a treatment serum.

Both are wipe-off cleansers, with 400mL bottles and 360mL refills. They are labelled fragrance-free, colourant-free, oil-free, ethanol-free and paraben-free. Allergy and patch testing do not guarantee that nobody will experience irritation.

Irene’s shopping order: first decide whether you want a whole-face cleansing water. Only then choose the cleansing or moisture emphasis. You do not need both bottles or repeated passes with alternating formulas.

When the 145mL eye-and-lip remover makes more sense

Bifesta Japanese two-phase Micellar Eye Makeup Remover 145mL
ミセラーアイメイクアップリムーバー 145mL

This separate product has water and oil phases and is intended for waterproof mascara and difficult-to-remove lip makeup. Bifesta specifically notes that cleansing water may struggle with waterproof mascara and suggests this remover in that situation.

Do not carry the cleansing waters’ oil-free or ethanol-free claims across to this bottle. It is a different formula, and it is also different from the Mascara Remover EX wand. When asking someone to buy it in Japan, send the complete Japanese name.

Use enough liquid, allow contact time, then wipe gently

Cleansing water

  1. Thoroughly wet a cotton pad, using approximately 3–5 pumps per pad.
  2. Start with eye and lip makeup. Rest the pad briefly on the area before gently wiping.
  3. Glide the pad gently over the rest of the face. Rinsing is not required. Do not repeatedly scrub stubborn waterproof eye makeup.

Eye-and-lip remover

  1. Close the cap and shake well to mix the two layers.
  2. Thoroughly wet a cotton pad; the brand’s guide is a 500-yen-coin-sized amount. Hold it on the eyelid or lips for about 10 seconds.
  3. Wipe gently without rubbing. The product is designed to be used without rinsing.

No-rinse directions do not establish that everyone can skip all further moisturising. Plan the rest of your skincare around your needs. If your skin is already stinging or red, do not continue wiping in pursuit of a perfectly clean pad.

Lash extensions: the important difference between bottles

The cleansing water’s extension-compatible claim applies to common cyanoacrylate-based glues, with a warning against excessive rubbing. Mandom’s FAQ explicitly lists the eye remover as not suitable for lash extensions; the brand page also warns that its ingredients or friction may detach them. The same brand name does not mean the same extension compatibility. Ask your lash technician if you do not know which glue was used.

Do not use on wounds, swelling or eczema. Follow the bottle’s precautions and keep the product out of your eyes. Rinse with water if it gets into them. Stop using it if redness, swelling, itching or irritation occurs, and consult a dermatologist. Persistent eye pain or discomfort needs medical attention, not another round of cleansing.

Three checks at a Japanese drugstore

  • Category: look for ウォーター for cleansing water and アイメイクアップリムーバー for the two-phase eye-and-lip product.
  • Version: the current moisture variant is セラムモイスト. Older reviews referring to モイスト, 300mL bottles or other ranges are not reliable descriptions of the current formula.
  • Pack: 400mL is the bottle and 360mL the refill. Packaging transitions can leave different designs on shelves, so match the full name rather than colour alone.

If your existing cleanser already removes your usual makeup comfortably, there is no need to collect the range. Matching the remover and technique to the makeup is the useful change.
